1. Eat kiwi as this exotic but delicious green fruit has been shown to reduce platelet clumping by as much as 18%, blood triglyceride levels by as much as 15% in studies at the University of Oslo.

2. Eat sweet corn as this tasty veggie is a natural source of chromium according to Harvard University researchers who have found the higher your levels of this important mineral, the lower your chances of troubles with your heart.

3. Eat vanilla yogurt as according to work in the European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, vanilla is naturally full of some very essential antioxidants that bring down inflammation throughout the body.

4. Chocolate milkshakes cut the risk of heart attack (yes, you read that right) according to research from the University of Barcelona that finds cocoa's anti-inflammatory properties cut the changes of atherosclerosis, a known contributor to heart disease.

5. Surprise, a bit of bacon has enough nitrates to actually help in preventing cardiovascular disease says a study from the University of Texas. Moderation is key here.

6. Drink pomegranate juice (60 ml) as doing so every day for a year can improve blood flow, plus lower systolic blood pressure by as much as 21% says a study from Rambam Medical Centre in Israel.

7. Drink milk as research in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition finds that a glass of milk per day helps to keep high blood pressure away, and this is key to a healthy heart and cuts the risk of a dangerous stroke.

12. Eat little meals often as research in the British Medical Journal has found that those who eat six small meals a day have 5% lower cholesterol numbers than those who eat one or two larger meals each day.

13. Refrigerate your vitamin supplements to prolong their effectiveness and thus get the most out of them.

14. Have fun in the sun according to a study by Johns Hopkins University five 50 minute sessions of natural sunshine can cut your risk of dying due to heart disease by an amazing 26%. So get out there.

15. Brush your teeth as this simple, everyday bit of grooming cuts your risk of heart disease by 70% according to University College London research because it fights the bacteria that cause inflammation in your body.
