Dear Reader
If you're struggling with feeling down or more irritable
than you'd like, it might be time to think about what
you're putting into your body in terms of food and drink.
Experts in nutrition say that what we're eating can have
a positive, or negative, effect on our mood over both
the short and long term.
It makes sense... keeping blood sugar steady and your
gastrointestinal (GI) tract running smoothly will certainly
help you feel great and full of energy.
Blood sugar that's hitting highs and lows makes you more likely to feel bad...
out of sorts... grumpy and uncomfortable.
When your digestive system is stressed, either because you're withholding food
by following a fad diet, or not getting enough water and fiber to keep things
running smoothly, you can't be at your best.
Making changes to support your body are the best things you can do to improve
your mood.
Starting with a heart healthy diet, one that's loaded with fiber but low in saturated
fat is a totally natural way to boost mood.

Those of us who love our coffee believe we're getting a jolt
of caffeine that improves our alertness... gets us ready for
the day, in fact, almost 80% of the world's population drink
coffee on a daily basis, yet despite what we all think caffeine
does for us, new research finds coffee drinkers are actually
no more alert than non-coffee drinkers.
It appears that a cup of coffee only holds off the effects of caffeine withdrawal
(headaches for instance) that have built up overnight. If you don't drink coffee
all that much, but grab a cup as an emergency pick me up, the study shows you
aren't any more alert, plus you have the pleasure of dealing with feelings of
anxiety and withdrawal the next day.

If you're a woman who is doing work with weights to help
stay fit, you might be better off drinking two big glasses
of milk instead of those "energy" drinks after your workout
according to a new study.
The researchers found that female subjects who drank this
amount of milk after weight lifting gained more muscle
and lost more fat than women who drank those sugar based "energy" drinks.
While workouts with weights aren't the typical choice of
most women, the benefits to your health are impressive.

More reason to get your weight under control... especially
if you're a man. As a patient's body mass index went up,
so too did prostate tumor volume according to a six-year
study on prostate cancer and weight.
What's more, the size of the tumor may well contribute to the aggressiveness
of the disease in those men who have a higher BMI.
In each BMI group, without fail, the team found the patient's weight was in direct
correlation with tumor size. The more weight, the bigger the tumor; the less
weight, the smaller the tumor.
