Reduce Your Belly Fat With This Proven Technique...
Dear Reader,
Looking to rid yourself of that awful looking belly fat? Forget so called miracle foods and ab busting crunches, a new study in the American Journal of Physiology, Endocrinology and Metabolism finds that vigorous aerobic exercises like jogging or brisk walking beat out weight training when it comes to getting rid of this ugly and dangerous, fat. And while the fat you can see might be unsettling, doctors tell us that the fat we can't see is the more dangerous kind.
Researcher Cris Slentz, PhD, an exercise physiologist from Duke University Medical Center focused on this more dangerous type of fat, the visceral kind.
Located deep inside the body, this fat is wrapped around your stomach and fills the spaces between vital internal organs. Visceral fat is associated with a higher risk of diabetes, heart disease and other dangerous health problems.
Subcutaneous fat, the ugly stuff we can see just under the surface of the skin is not nearly as dangerous.
The study on belly fat and exercise involved assigning men and women (ages 18 to 70) to one of three different groups.
Aerobic training involved walking on a treadmill on an incline - the workout was the equal of 12 miles of jogging at 80% of maximum heart rate a week.
The resistance training called for three sets of 8 to 12 repetitions on weight machines, three times each week.
The final group did both workouts each week. The project ran for eight months.
The team of researchers examined before and after measurements of the participants, 144 subjects, both male and female who had been equally divided among the three workout regimes.
The aerobic training group reduced visceral fat and improved risk factors for diabetes the most, while the combination workout brought more total belly fat reduction, but less visceral fat loss than the aerobic only exercisers.
As to the resistance only group, they had the least total belly fat decrease, losing some subcutaneous fat, but surprisingly gaining a bit of the visceral fat.
So why is aerobic training the best for belly fat?

Reduce Your Belly Fat With This Proven Technique... Continued...
It burns more calories than a workout with weights experts believe. When you're
doing weight work, there are rest periods, even with circuit weight training,
and this cuts down the calories burnt. As an example, running for an hour burns
from 500 to 750 calories, while an intense circuit training only burns about
250 calories an hour.
This is not to suggest you give up weight training, in fact this type of workout
helps offset the loss of muscle mass that comes with age, and helps you to hang
onto your strength as you get older.
Being strong is very important to staying healthy and living independently as
you get older. That's why a mix of aerobic and weight training is considered
best for all of us.
If you haven't been active in a while, exercise physiologist Slentz suggests
that you speak with your doctor first - to be sure exercise is safe for you.
Once you get the okay, start slow, and build steadily over time. Before you know
it you'll be seeing the benefits in your own life... feeling and looking better.
To your good health,
