The Mistaken Impressions Women Have About Obesity...

Dear Reader,

Fascinating survey findings on women and their perceptions of obesity and its dangers. In 2010, research firm Harris Interactive joined with nonprofit health information resource HealthyWomen to survey women about obesity.

Most of the participants (1,037 women in all) in the project knew that obesity is a big (sorry!) issue today, but many don't see how their own weight and diet patterns might be influencing others.

Three of the most striking findings include.

1. Mothers influence - although 87% believed that parents have a role in the cycle of obesity, only 28% gave any responsibility to themselves as parents when it came to their own kids' weight. A full 57% thought that a mother and father had equal influence on the child's potential for carrying too many pounds.

Yet science shows that a mother's obesity has a far greater impact on a child than the father's - kids tend to emulate their mom's pattern of eating. Add to this that mothers are typically the ones doing the lion's share of the grocery shopping and meal preparation and you can see the influence she can have, without even realizing it.

2. Those around you - under a third of the women surveyed understood that they were 57% more likely to be obese if they had a friend who was at this weight, 40% if a sibling was obese and 37% if their spouse was obese.

3. Overall health - almost all, 97%, of the women in the survey understood that obesity is linked to heart disease and diabetes. Yet only 30% saw obesity as associated with infertility and gallstones, just 25% were aware it could up the risk of cancers of the breast and colon. Only 13% knew of its link to uterine cancer.

Many women are under the impression that obesity is a genetic disorder, and think there's nothing they can do to fix it. Of course this isn't true. While genetics play a part, environment has just as much to do with weight as anything.

It's now becoming clearer than ever before that women's lifestyle choices not only impact their lives, but can also have impact on the lives of those they care about most.

The concern is that more than 30% of American kids (aged 2-19) are either overweight or obese. Not only does this cause problems today, but can bring on a host of troubling issues as these children get older. The good news is that a mother can do a whole lot to help her kids (and herself) get on the right track.

Medical Doctor Reveals The Shocking Truth

The real reason you can't shift those stubborn pounds has nothing to do with a lack of willpower, eating too much or not eating the right kinds of foods - absolutely nothing.

It's because your gut is full of plaque and parasites that work against you, no matter what you do, making it impossible to lose weight.

However, now there's a proven way to flush these parasites from your gut and get rid of the plaque, allowing you to shed unwanted pounds fast.

The Mistaken Impressions Women Have About Obesity... Continued...

Start by setting realistic goals for your kids (and yourself). Eat more fruits and veggies in place of other foods. Aim for being at a healthy weight and be sure to make time for relaxation or play as stress can make kids (adults too) overeat. It's also important to be sure your children are getting enough quality sleep, since sleep loss has also been linked to childhood obesity.

Most certainly you'll want to be paying attention to the quality and quantity of what you're eating and feeding to your kids. This process calls for answers to some tough questions. How frequent are meals and snacks at your house? How massive are the portions you serve? Could your family favorite recipes be made with healthier ingredients?

And lastly, it's essential to encourage everyone in the family to get up and get more active. Try to make the workouts fun, things like a bike ride in the woods, playing touch football in the yard, or building an obstacle course or tree house in your own back yard. While mandatory exercise turns kids off, things that are enjoyable get them up and going.

To your good health,
