You've heard that sweetened beverages have been associated with a higher risk of high blood pressure, but a new U.S. study suggests that fruit sugar might not be at fault.

Experts followed over 200,000 adults for 38 years and saw that regularly drinking sweetened beverages (either with fruit sugars or artificial sweeteners) was linked to a rise of almost 13% in the risk of being diagnosed with high blood pressure. Those carbonated and cola options were most strongly associated with a risk of high blood pressure, but surprisingly fruit sugar (fructose), didn't stand out.

Click through to discover why fruit sugar isn't believed to be a contributory factor in hypertension:

Important news for women on alcohol intake. The latest recommendation on alcohol consumption for women - no more than one drink per day is safe.

The research included 1,900 post menopausal women and demonstrated that drinking 7 to 14 alcoholic drinks a week brought a 30% to 60% higher risk of breast cancer. The women who did develop cancer of the breast most often got the most common type, estrogen and progesterone hormone receptor positive, which thankfully is not the most lethal form of disease.

Drinking alcohol is one of the few risk factors that are under your control. Click through to discover some of the other factors you can influence:

How To Reduce Breast Cancer Risk...

Good news for dark chocolate lovers! A new study from Australia finds that rich and delicious dark chocolate may lower risks for both heart disease and stroke.

It may be sometime soon that those at high risk of these conditions are urged to eat this type of chocolate each day as a natural way to get the dietary components that offer health benefits to those at risk of cardiovascular disease.
