Dear Reader
Want to live longer? Get up off the couch! Many of us
have started to realize that too much sitting is not
good for us. Now new research in the British Medical
Journal finds that the time we all spend sitting could
be taking years off the lives of adults. What's more,
the analysis suggests that life expectancy would increase
if all of us would only get up off the couch.
While science
is only beginning to examine how sitting so much might
impact health and wellness, the early findings show that
too much time on the couch/recliner is tied to many debilitating
chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease and
cancer.

Sun Exposure Myths...
Here's a unique idea for weight loss. If you're trying
to cut how many calories you take in, you might start
by cutting up the food you eat according to an Arizona
State University study presented in Zurich as part
of the international conference for the Society for
the Study of Ingestive Behavior.
This isn't the first
time researchers have looked at the link between
the way a food is presented and how much we choose
to eat.

Some encouraging news on the Alzheimer's
front. A new drink that's a combination
of three key nutrients appears to help
those with early Alzheimer's disease
improve their memory. As this terrible
disease progresses patients gradually
lose memory and cognitive function
because the connections between brain
cells, known as synapses, deteriorate.
The drink, called Souvenaid, works
by stimulating the growth of new synapses
according to its inventor Dr. Richard
Wurtman from the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology.

It's hard to argue with this advice, even when it comes from such a small,
short term study - older women who have one to two alcoholic drinks (that's
8 to 10 grams of alcohol) a few times a week improve their bone health and
cut the risk of developing mobility robbing osteoporosis.
This disease is a
silent one, supplying no outward symptoms as it weakens bones and makes them
more prone to breaking. Most women don't realize they even have this condition
until they break a bone.
