These Superfoods To Weigh Less

Dear Reader,

When you're caught in the diet trap... denying yourself every delicious treat you can imagine, it's no wonder losing weight is such a challenge. But rather than focusing on what you "can't" have, triathlete Lucy Danziger an author and editor-in-chief of SELF magazine, decided to focus on eating foods that would pay her back... give her body the proper fuel to do the things she wanted, like swim, run and bike faster. She started eating so called "superfoods" - nuts, berries, whole grains that are naturally loaded with protein, fiber and other nutrients.

Danziger lost 25 pounds in the next 6 months.

There's nothing magic in what she did. She avoided processed foods and desserts, ate more veggies and fruits, replaced white bread with the wheat variety... putting her focus on what you should be eating, not what you shouldn't. It's the opposite of what we've all been doing - a very different, and perhaps far more effective, approach.

You can do this too. Rather than a traditional "diet" add superfoods to what you eat and see how you feel. With lots of choices of superfoods that taste delicious, you won't be thinking about being denied, about starvation. Superfoods are part of that. The term was first coined by Dr. Steven Pratt in 1994 and became part of the title of his book SuperFoods Rx: Fourteen Foods That Will Change Your Life. He's been excited about these foods since the mid 1990s and has three recognized parameters each superfood must meet.

· Have nutrients that are known to enhance longevity.

· Have health benefits that are backed by peer-reviewed, scientific research.

A few of the foods Pratt considers true superfoods are... salmon, broccoli, spinach, berries (not just blueberries but raspberries, strawberries and blackberries) and green tea. The superfoods website lists more. All the foods on Pratt's list have high concentrations of crucial nutrients, and they're low in calories as well.

These Superfoods To Weigh Less Continued...

Pratt was not all about weight loss when he started enjoying superfoods. Of course that was all that anyone who heard about them was interested in - weight loss. How much weight people who ate this way lost, without even trying.

What's more, it seems these superfoods bring some pretty spectacular benefits to your health... lower cholesterol, reduced risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and deadly cancer. Some of these tasty superfoods might even help your mood.

Other experts caution that while superfoods do have lots of fiber, water and protein, so they leave you feeling satisfied, to say they help burn fat is taking things a bit too far. Danziger is in agreement on this - these foods aren't a free pass to eat all you want, when you want, but it is pretty hard to put on weight when eating a lot of them.
