6 Ways To Spot Health Problems

Dear Reader,

There are those in the medical arena who say that our bodies offer some very small but reliable hints about a person's health. Creases in your ears, the look of your fingernails, the length of your arms... even the color of other secretions can actually tell a whole lot about what's going on inside the body.

Here we discuss six clues that are rather easy to spot. If you have any of the six... don't panic. What you need to do is take your concern to your own doctor. By reporting this kind of sign from your body you can help a medical professional uncover a problem before it's gotten too big.

1. A crease in the ear

Supporting this idea are experts like Dr. Michael Wald, Director of Nutritional Services at Integrated Medicine who is likely the most qualified doctor of nutrition in the U.S. In practice for 22 years, Dr. Wald recognizes the important role the mind plays in healing the body. He is known for the ability to identify health issues that many other practitioners, even specialists, miss.

Wald supports the ear crease clue to health by pointing to a 74-year-old patient who hadn't noticed the crease in his ear (from the bottom of the ear upward, diagonally), it turned out to be an enfolding of tissue that's associated with cardiovascular disease.

Supporting studies have found 71% of those with the ear crease had been diagnosed with heart disease.

2. Yes... ear wax

Makes you cringe, but earwax has been associated with heart disease. We are born with one of two types of earwax - a wet sticky type or a dry, brittle type. If you're more dry, brittle than you're at higher risk of heart disease when compared to the other type. Wald believes the connection has something to do with how our bodies naturally handle fat and oil.

3. A 5 o'clock shadow

The good news for these men is that they probably have a lower risk of heart problems in the future - that 5 o'clock shadow is produced thanks to the hormone testosterone. The more you have, the lower your risk of heart disease.

4. Length of arms and legs

An arm that measures under 60 inches could indicate a higher risk of heart disease. Longer arms have also been linked to less of a risk of Alzheimer's disease as well. Doctors think this may be linked to an embryo's exposure to different hormones, mainly estrogen and testosterone.

Calves that are under 13 inches around could also be a tip off to heart issues. Small calves can sometimes reflect a higher risk Wald reports.

5. Nail Clubbing

This is another odd sounding name that might well signal some fairly serious health problems. Nail clubbing is when the tissue at the tips of the fingers starts to cover the nail. Research has found that 80% of those with clubbing fingernails have a serious disease - heart disease, lung disease or even cancer. Many manicurists will also tell you that healthy nails are a sign of health overall.

6. Green nasal mucus

Not only is it ugly, this color mucus has been linked to a higher instance of heart disease. The green color is due to the presence of a chemical that can also damage tissues in the sinuses, as well as in the lungs or heart.

Again, if you have any of the six, don't panic. But do talk with your doctor about your concerns, and take his or her suggestions on things you can do to stay healthy.

To your good health,
