Easy Tips To Get Healthier Now (Part 1)
Dear Reader,
Everyone is always talking about getting healthy, and you know you should, but just how do you get started? The good news is that there are lots of things, some easier than others, that you can do. So many, in fact, that we couldn't fit them all in a single article, so we begin with part 1.
1. Reach for your toes as this simple action boosts circulation after your feet have been cooped up in shoes all day. Without good circulation, the muscles and nerves in the toes don't work as they should, and this can bring pain in surprising places higher up like the knees, hips and even your back.
2. Wash your linens as dust mites, a major allergy trigger, love to make their homes in your bedding. Laundering sheets and pillowcases once per week in hot water keeps them from gaining a foothold. Also, use mattress covers that are designed to keep these pests, and others, out of your bed.
3. Turn on the air vent above your seat when you fly. Being very aware of the germs that are on planes makes it easier to protect yourself. Turn on the air vent above you and angle it so it blows air down in front of your face. This is filtered air and keeps the germs in the cabin from going into your mouth or nose.
4. Get booster shots like tetanus and TDaP. You should have a tetanus shot every ten years. The letters for the other booster stand for Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (whooping cough) and of the last, a dangerous respiratory condition, cases have risen a staggering 137% since the year 2000. If you have children, or are around children regularly, you need this booster. The shot you got as a kid may have worn off.
5. Don't wear panties as wearing no undergarments, or cotton ones, overnight allows the external genitals to dry and cuts bacteria growth that could make its way into the urethra and bring a bladder infection. This is especially important if you suffer from frequent urinary tract infections.

6. Carry your personal health information. Use a card you can keep in your wallet where you to list any allergies you have and any medications (even supplements) that you take each day. If you end up in the ER and re unable to speak for yourself, this information is critical to those taking care of you.
7. Turn down the volume. We're all walking around with portable music players and headphones, but these devices can create sound up to 120 decibels, and that's loud enough to cause loss of your hearing over time. Keep the volume at 60% of the maximum for no more than 60 minutes a day and you'll do well.
8. Eat breakfast for five days in a row. You know starting the day off with a healthy meal is good for you, do it for a few days in a row and see how amazing you feel. Try adding flax (1 tablespoon) in your oatmeal, spread your toast with chocolate nut spread and add chopped pistachios, top pancakes or waffles with ½ cup mashed raspberries, add a pinch of ground turmeric into beaten eggs, smear half a whole grain bagel with 2 tablespoons hummus... all tasty options to start your day off right.
9. Microwave your dish sponge, as this one items is likely the most germ packed thing in your whole house. Almost 15% of sponges have bacteria that can make you sick. So put your sponge in the dishwasher once a week, or microwave them, damp, on high for 30 seconds once each week.
To your good health,
