We're all busier than ever these days - work, family, appointments, chores keep us going, always going. Since it doesn't look like things are going to slow down anytime soon, here are some great natural ways to give yourself a boost when you're flagging.
Your first instinct might be to grab a cup of coffee or one of those colorfully packaged energy drinks. While these drinks do give you a jolt of energy right off, there's always a crash. And it can be a doozy. What you're after when it comes to improving your energy levels is something that is safe, effective and avoids that crash.
Try these instead...
1. Eating small, frequent meals as hunger is the biggest energy drain around. The truth is food acts like a fuel to the body, and if there's no fuel in the tank the engine isn't going anywhere. Eating smaller, more frequent meals that have lots of fiber (include fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean protein) will help keep your blood sugar levels naturally even and supply healthy energy all day long.
2. Get a good sleep, obvious advice and yet most people don't get the right amount of sleep, 7-8 hours a night, experts recommend. Sleep resets the systems of the body, essential for functioning, and feeling your best. If you can't get enough sleep during the night, try for short, 20-minute power naps during the day to supplement your sleep instead.
3. Exercising gives you a natural energy boost; even though you're probably thinking it's the last thing you have the time or energy to do. But even a quick walk around gets the blood pumping, upping heart strength (and health), speeding metabolism and sending out those feel good brain chemicals that also help with alertness. Intensity is more important than the duration. What's more, several short (5 min) bouts of exercise have the very same benefit as one long session.
4. Socializing as those of us with a strong support system have an easier time handling stress, whether from work, school or in our home lives. This kind of stress can take away tons of energy, more than you might think, but by socializing with people who are upbeat, supportive and fun your energy levels will naturally take off because happiness is contagious.
5. Stay away from "crash" foods the biggest culprits being things high in fat, especially saturated fat, simple carbs and of course, caffeine. In small doses caffeine can supply an energy boost, too much cases a crash. Opt for foods like lean meats and veggies and water or iced tea instead of hyper caffeinated drinks.

6. Cut back on caffeine because overloading on this morning must can bring dehydration
and undue stress on the adrenal system. A cup or two a day is fine, but if you're
looking to cut back choose green tea as it has almost half the caffeine and is

Sit and inhale slowly, to a count of four and then breathe out slowly, again to a four count. Do this ten times and you'll be ready to go.
10. Drink enough water, especially if afternoon fatigue is an issue for you. Since the human body is 70% water, replenishing our fluid levels regularly is important, avoiding dangerous dehydration. Increasing your water intake also helping to flush toxins from he body.
