Tasty Food Which Makes You Thin (Part 1)

Dear Reader,

You have no problem with eating healthy to lose some weight, but it's got to taste good, there's no way around that. When it comes to weight loss, so many of the choices seem... well... bad, bland and just plain boring. It's no wonder people struggle with sticking to a diet.

Today we're bringing you the first part of our series on delicious foods that fit the weight loss bill perfectly. They taste great. They're known fat fighters that will only help your weight loss efforts. And you can find them everywhere.

- Greek Yogurt: What makes this food a tasty tool for weight loss is the natural protein content - two times as much as other forms of yogurt. And since protein takes longer to leave the stomach, it keeps you feeling fuller, longer. What's more, the body naturally burns more calories when it's digesting protein (vs. carbs), so you get an extra weight loss boost.

- Quinoa: A whole grain (pronounced keen-wa) that has 8 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber in a single cup. It's also naturally loaded with iron, zinc, selenium and vitamin E. Plus it's as easy to prepare as rice and can be mixed with veggies, nuts or even a lean protein.

- Cinnamon: Research has shown that this spice might have a stabilizing impact on levels of blood sugar and might curtail appetite, especially for those who have type 2 diabetes. Stir some into your coffee, tea or even yogurt to add a lot of flavor without calories.

- Hot Peppers: Are a natural source of a flavorless compound known as capsaicin (there's more in habaneros, but also in jalapenos) that curbs appetite and speeds up the metabolism just a bit, and only for a little while. While the effect on weight loss is being debated, we do know that people do tend to eat less when the food is spicy.

- Green Tea: There's more than one bit of research that suggests green tea may help with weight loss by getting the body to burn abdominal fat. Green tea is a natural source of catechins, a phytochemical that may briefly impact your metabolism. You'll need to drink a few cups a day to get the benefit. Drink it hot as it takes longer to drink, slowing your intake of calories and offering a soothing, mindful experience.

- Grapefruit: Is a tasty option that might not be a fat burner, but it helps you feel full with fewer calories. It's likely because of all the soluble fiber that takes longer to digest. Eating half a grapefruit (or drinking grapefruit juice) before a meal might help you feel full so you eat less during the meal.

- Watermelon: A delicious staple of summer, this fruit is full of the antioxidant lycopene as well as vitamins A and C, and high in water so it takes up more room in your stomach, signaling the body that you've had enough.

- Pears and Apples: Both have lots of water in them, and be sure to eat the peels as they give you the extra fiber. Whole fruits, in place of fruit juices, are always best as you burn a few calories in the chewing, rather than none as you sip a smoothie.

- Grapes and Raisins: Here's a perfect example of water content - 2 cups of grapes vs. ¼ cup of raisins. Both have few calories but the larger portion is likely to give you more satisfaction.

- Berries: These tasty fruits are loaded with water and fiber, and the very sweet taste is a benefit, they can satisfy your sweet tooth for a tiny fraction of the calories of a regular dessert.

Tasty Food Which Makes You Thin (Part 1) Continued...

- Raw Veggies: This is an outstandingly healthy snack because they satisfy the need to crunch, they're loaded with water so you feel full and they don't have many calories, so you can eat as much as you like. When you want chips and dip, try replacing the chips with raw veggies and you'll love the tasty, crunchy change.

- Sweet Potatoes: A baked sweet potato doesn't need much to make it taste good, it's naturally sweet and full of flavor. So you can forget calorie-laden butter, sour cream, cheese or bacon. These veggies are also naturally great sources of potassium, beta-carotene, vitamin C and fill you up fiber.

- Eggs: Getting your protein in the morning from an egg is one way to keep your hunger in check longer than eating a carb like a bagel. The egg has 7 grams of quality protein, along with other key nutrients, and your body will burn more calories digesting the protein than the carb breakfast.

All of these foods sound good, don't they? Why not try adding or (or more) to your own diet this week and see what you think. Part 2 of the series will tell you about more great tasting, fat fighting foods you might enjoy.

To your good health,
