Tasty Food Which Makes You Thin (Part 2)
Dear Reader,
Dieting or not, we want the food we eat to taste good first and be good for the waistline second. Part of the reason we all hate dieting so much is that many of the food choices seem... less than appealing. It's hard to stick to a diet when you just don't like what you're eating.
So here's the second part in our series on delicious foods that fit the weight loss/good taste bill perfectly.
-
Coffee: It does stimulate the metabolism, a bit; the effect is small and easily
cancelled out by the extra calories of a loaded coffee drink.
-
Oatmeal: It has fiber rich, whole grain oats, lots of water and it's hot. Hot
foods take longer to eat, and the liquid and fiber combination will help you
feel fuller for a longer time. Don't got for already sweetened varieties, buy
plain and add your own sweet taste.
-
Crispbreads: Such as whole grain rye crackers are a low fat, fiber filled alternative
to regular crackers. People who replace refined grains with whole grains also
tend to have less belly fat. The benefit comes from whole grain breads, cereals
and pastas too.
-
Tabouli: A sure standout when it comes to whole grain is bulgur wheat, what's
found in tabouli. It's loaded with fiber and protein, but low in fat and calories
so you fill up without lots of calories. The rich taste makes it satisfying to
your palate as well.
-
Soup: The broth based, not cream based variety, are a dieter's best friend. They're
full of water to fill you up, they're hot so you eat them more slowly and soup
takes up space that might have gone to other, more fattening foods instead.
-
Salad: Also a great way to fill up before a meal, or add lean protein and make
the salad the main course. Lettuce has lots of water content, so it takes up
space in the stomach. Add your favorite fruits and veggies, or grated cheese
to up the flavor. Take care with dressing which can be loaded with fat and calories,
try salsa, hummus or black bean dip instead, or have your dressing on the side
and dip your salad into it, as needed.
-
Vinegar: Using oil and vinegar on your salad is delicious, light and may also
give you another fat fighting benefit. Some studies suggest that vinegar may
help the body break down fat.
-
Nuts: An incredible way to curb hunger between meals as they're loaded with protein,
fiber and heart healthy fats. Research has shown that nuts can promote weight
loss and improve cholesterol levels when eaten in the proper portion sizes.
-
Air Popped Popcorn: Just 3 cups of plain, air popped popcorn might not seem like
all that much, but the calorie content is also low. This serving size offers
lots of volume without lots of fat or sugar. A big bowl of popcorn delivers far
more snacking satisfaction than those 10 chips ever will. It's not only visually
satisfying, looking like a lot, but it takes time to eat, aiding the sense that
you're full.
-
Skim Milk: You get plenty of natural protein and calcium but none of the fat
of whole milk. And skim milk can help you feel full, as it takes longer to leave
the stomach than other drinks with less protein. There's also evidence that low
fat (nonfat) dairy might promote weight loss around the middle though more work
is needed to confirm the finding.

Tasty Food Which Makes You Thin (Part 2) Continued...
-
Lean Meat: While protein can keep you feeling fuller, longer, and burns more
calories during digestion, you need to choose proteins with care. Dark meat tends
to be loaded with fat and could cancel out the benefits of the protein. Skinless
chicken breast is a great choice as are some cuts (flank steak, eye of round,
top sirloin) of beef in 3-4 ounce portions.
-
Fish: Truly one of the best sources of protein out there. Research has found
fish is more satisfying than either chicken or beef, likely due to the type of
protein it has. Most fish is low in fat or has healthier forms of fat (omega-3
fatty acids) that help protect against heart disease and some other chronic diseases.
-
Beans: This food is a triple threat in terms of weight loss. It's a veggie, a
protein and a great source of fiber as well. You'll stay full longer without
ingesting a lot of calories. What's more, they're easy to make.
Some great choices, right? See how many you can add to your diet, and help yourself lose weight while enjoying options that really taste good too.
To your good health,
